What a terrific quote! And well-timed, too. I’m looking at a few transitions in my life, and realizing that my usual style of “finding a rut and staying there forever” is not a good one. So this post was just what I needed to read this morning! Thanks, Kim!

Glad it inspired you, Ann. Unfortunately it’s all to easy to get in a rut. This scares me sometimes, especially when I have a birthday and realize another year has gone by without me crossing items off my bucket list. I’m in the process of trying to get out of a deep rut myself. Pretty much everything I post is the result of something I’m sorting through. Guess I’m trying to inspire myself, too.

A wonderful quote Kim.
When are you going to write that
Haiku for me? π

I’m scared to! But at some point I’ll try it. Maybe you need to give me a topic.

Ok Kim.
This is a Haiku I wrote a while ago.
Just to give you an idea of the rhythm.
Farewell.
They held hands and wept.
While upon a distant hill,
played the lone piper.
The topic I would like you to write about, is,
Halloween.

Here you go, Alan:
Halloween
Ghosts and goblins rise
in the imaginations
of the young at heart.
Thanks once again for challenging meπ

Thank you, Alan! It’s kind of fun working within constraints (I can’t believe I’m saying that).

Great quote and advice, Kim. We all need more of that attitude. Too many of us are existing instead of living. There’s not enough time in this earth to just exist.

Love this! I’ve been listening to Michael Beckwith for a few weeks. According to him, we’re all asking the wrong question. He says we should be asking, “What does the universe have in mind for my life?” Would love to hear what you think.

My feelings about this are mixed and complex, Kathy. I feel that the work I am currently doing with low income students is my calling from God (or the universal intelligence). I get thrown into it over and over, almost against my will, and I’m good at it. At the same time, I often feel burnt out and longing for a rest, and for time to create and give to my family what I give to my students. So do I surrender to the calling or swim against the stream to create something else? It’s truly my life struggle.

These are great questions. What I’ve learned is when I feel as if I’m “swimming against the stream,” then I’m probably not supposed to be doing whatever that is. I wonder if you can do the same kind of work but on a different scale? I know from experience that working with low income students requires giving a lot of energy, but I also believe that life’s not about being burnt out. Thanks for entertaining my questions/thoughts. I’ve got more to think about now.
