“You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.” ~Alice in Wonderland (to the Mad Hatter)
The phrase “mad as a hatter” was used in the 19th century to describe eccentric persons. Albert Einstein, my soulmate in another life, is my favorite “mad hatter”. This photo of him immediately popped into my mind when I read this quote. Who’s your favorite mad hatter? Or are you a mad hatter?
I think all creative people are a bit mad. It sort of goes with the territory. Personally, I know so many I don’t think I could narrow it down to a favorite! Love the photo, by the way!
It think you may be right about that, Ann. Isn’t the photo great? I do yoga and we have a crazy breathing exercise called Lion’s Breath where you stick out your tongue and basically moan and groan while doing it — looks just like this, lol. If anyone ever walked into a class while we were doing that breath they’d for sure thing we were all mad.
Alan, I looked him up on Google. Those paintings! Amazing. That mustache! Yes, he definitely sounded eccentric. It seems like the more artistically talented and driven by that talent, the more eccentric. Thanks for introducing me to him.
Ah, yes, Robin Williams. I’m still so sad when I think about how his life ended. He brought so much joy and laughter to the world. I wonder why so many amazingly talented artists are tortured in their minds.
It’s true, isn’t . Creative people, especially those whose talents are off the charts, all have demons. Their minds are obviously on a different level than ours and they see things that we don’t or at least express it in ways that we can’t, but they are all fighting something in their lives, whether it’s a dependency on something or a past they just can’t shake. It’s fascinating in a disturbing way.
Oh yay, I’m in good company then. 🙂

My favourite Mad Hatter
has to be Salvador Dali,
the Spanish surrealist painter.
A genius.
But, mad as a March hare.

Lol…we’re all mad hatters in our own way. My favorite was Robin Williams. He was the craziest genius I never met.
