“Sometimes I wish I could go back in life. Not to change things, just to feel a couple things twice.” ~Drake
One of the places I’d love to go back and experience is this graffiti house in a suburb of London. Artists from all over the world came together to create this unique work of art. My students and I and our guides were the last people to see it, aside from the construction crew that demolished it the next day. Just as we were leaving, the fence they were building around the property in preparation for the demolition was completed. I still remember the lonely sound of the tall gate closing behind us. We all felt so blessed to have been the last visitors.
P.S. Thank you to Cher for the title of this post.
What a shame they had to tear that house down!

The house was totally dilapidated and unsafe to be in, but it’s still a shame. At least we have photos to remember it by.

That’s beautiful, George. Did you make that up or is it a quote from someone else?

It’s wonderful that you were able to go through it one last time before it was demolished. I really like some of the art in the house – especially the room with the faces on the wall.

I wish I could remember the name of the artists so I could tell you who that one was, but I can’t. The entire town was covered with street art. The woman who took us to the house was the woman responsible for bringing them together. The street art all over town was based on each artist’s interpretation of a select painting housed in a local museum. Very neat stuff.
